Patients with gonadal dysgenesis may benefit from new developments in the treatment of their growth deficiency. Previously, oestrogen therapy was held until the late teenage years for fear of decreasing final height; presently, low-dose oestrogen therapy (5-10┬╡g of ethinyloestradiol orally per day to begin) is started earlier, such as at thirteen years, to allow secondary sexual development at an appropriate age, to reduce psychosocial pressure, and to decrease the risk of osteoporosis.
